Ashurst has advised Western Sydney Airport on its bulk earthworks contract with a joint venture between CPB Contractors and Lendlease Engineering, the first major contract to be signed in the development of the new Western Sydney International Nancy-Bird Walton Airport.
This is one of Australia’s largest ever infrastructure earthworks projects. The project involves moving approximately 25 million cubic metres of earth on the site to support construction of the major elements of the airport, including the runway and terminal. Initial earthworks began in September last year, with the major earthworks expected to begin later this year. The airport is on track to open to international, domestic and freight flights in 2026.
Ashurst Partner Krista Payne (Picture) led the team, supported by partner David Jardine, senior associates Tamsyn Zulch, lawyers Ian Hedberg and Marya Atmeh, and graduate Christina Kopoulos.
