Town of Andrews V. United Technologies/Raytheon/Stantec

Taft Stettinius & Hollister LLP advised the Town of Andrews on the deal.

The case involved the Town of Andrews, Ind. (Andrews), and its residents, in an environmental lawsuit against United Technologies/Raytheon/Stantec and current/former owners of a local gas station. Residents of Andrews filed a complaint alleging drinking water and vapor contamination arising from a local automotive factory and gas station. The community members brought claims of trespass, nuisance, negligence, negligent infliction of emotional distress, negligent failure to warn, and Environmental Legal Action against the defendants. In June 2020, a public health emergency was declared in Andrews after record levels of the carcinogen vinyl chloride were found in the town’s public wellfield, which supplies the town’s drinking water.
