DLA Piper has advised leading tidal power company Tidal Lagoon Power on the pioneering Swansea Bay tidal power project in Wales, which is set to be the world’s first tidal lagoon power plant.
Planning partner Howard Bassford (Picture) led the team advising on the project, which is set to be the world’s first tidal lagoon power plant, following the independent review by former energy minister Charles Hendry. DLA Piper advised on the consenting and real estate aspects of the proposal, putting together the case for the grant of development consent in relation to the project.
When completed, the Swansea Bay project will comprise 16 hydro turbines in a six mile breakwater wall, generating electricity for 155,000 homes for the next 120 years. Construction of the project will take four years with first power generated in year three.
