Rucho v. Common Cause

Patterson Belknap attorneys filed a Motion to Affirm in the U.S. Supreme Court in Rucho v. Common Cause.

Patterson Belknap law Firm represents the non-partisan organization Common Cause, the Democratic Party of North Carolina, and a group of North Carolina voters. The filing asks the Court to affirm the U.S. District Court for the Middle District of North Carolina’s historic January 9, 2018 judgment striking down North Carolina’s congressional map as an unconstitutional partisan gerrymander. Following the January 9 ruling, the U.S. Supreme Court stayed the lower court’s judgment pending appeal. The April 27 filing asks the Court to affirm that judgment or to give the case full consideration in its October 2018 Term.
