Rimon Partner Marc Kaufman to join Expert Group of the European Union Intellectual Property Office’s Observatory on Infringements of Intellectual Property Rights

Law firm Rimon Intellectual Property Partner Marc Kaufman has been invited to join the Impact of Technology Expert Group of the European Union Intellectual Property Office’s (EUIPO) Observatory on Infringements of Intellectual Property Rights.  

The Observatory is a network of stakeholders from the public sector, the private sector, and civil society.  Its Expert Groups (EG) help and guide the implementation of Observatory projects in focused and specialized areas.   

The Impact of Technology Expert Group works to identify new technologies with potential to impact and help IPR protection and carries out studies and launches initiatives to better understand these impacts. In 2021, the group will focus on 5G/6G, IOT, and quantum computing, and will support new research into the impact of artificial intelligence on infringement and enforcement of copyright and design. 
Marc Kaufman concentrates his practice in the area of patent strategy, advising clients in protecting, managing and leveraging their intellectual property assets. He has also represented clients in defending against patent assertions in district courts and through post-grant administrative proceedings in the U.S. Patent Office. Mr. Kaufman has created structured procedures to secure and enforce intellectual property rights in a market-focused manner. Marc’s practice focuses on computer software including the areas of Fintech, database technology, content distribution, and computer security. Over the last several years, Marc has actively monitored and analysed the emerging patent landscape related to blockchain technology and cryptocurrency and is a co-founder of the Blockchain IP Council.  
Enhancing a reputation as a leading voice in the area of intellectual property matters, Mr. Kaufman has spoken around the world, including at the World Trade Organization, the United States Patent Trademark Office, and the European Union Intellectual Property Office. He has also authored many articles and been quoted in notable publications such as the New York Times, the Boston Globe, Forbes, Newsweek, and the Patent Trademark & Copyright Journal. Mr. Kaufman has been named to the IAM 350 Top Patent Strategists every year since its inception.

Prior to joining Rimon, Mr. Kaufman practiced as a Partner with Reed Smith LLP, where he was head of the firm’s FinTech Practice.
