NETTO ApS’s joint venture in food retailing sector

Heuking Kühn Lüer Wojtek has advised on the deal

NETTO ApS formed the “RTG Retail Trade Group” joint venture with real,-, Bartels-Langness, Bünting, Klaas & Kock, and Georg Jos. Kaes effective April 3, 2017.

The Hamburg-based joint venture is intended to strengthen the competitiveness of the six food retail companies on the procurement markets.

Each of the companies holds one-sixth of the joint venture, which bundles various functional areas, such as the purchasing of food, nonfood, and ultra-fresh products. Synergy effects are further expected in e-commerce, technical purchasing, and in some administrative areas. Cooperation is also planned in procurement logistics.

The joint venture partners coordinated their procedure with the Federal Cartel Office.

NETTO ApS & Co. KG, headquartered in Stavenhagen, employs some 5,800 people in Germany. With 347 food markets, the company is represented in the German states of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, Brandenburg, Berlin, Saxony-Anhalt, Saxony, Schleswig-Holstein, Lower Saxony, and Hamburg.
