Itaú’s $52.7 Million Investment in Argo Energia

Pinheiro Guimarães and Mattos Filho advised on the deal

Itaú Unibanco S.A. executed its the R$200 million investment in the electric power transmission company that holds the concession of a major electric power transmission line known as Project Argo I, located in the States of Maranhão, Piauí and Ceará, with a total expected investment of approximately R$2 billion.

Itaú Unibanco subscribed redemable preffered shares corresponding to approximately 9.5% of Argo’s capital stock and is now party to a shareholders’ agreement with Pátria Investimento (the founding shareholder) and other investors in the company.

Argo I expands the Basic Power Grid of the states of Maranhão, Piauí and Ceará, allowing increased dispatching of the power generated in these locations. It is expected that the Argo I transmission line will cross these states, travelling across 42 municipalities with about 1,200 km in length.

Pinheiro Guimarães advised Itaú Unibanco S.A. on the deal with a team including Maria Costa Neves (Picture), Francisco José Pinheiro Guimarães, Sergio Ramos Yoshino and Luiza Furtado.

Mattos Filho advised Argo and its shareholders with Marina Anselmo, Cristina Rangel Maciel and Karina Margulies.
