International Finance Corporation’s US$20 Million Investment in Agrofértil

Nicholson y Cano represented International Finance Corporation in the transaction.

Agrofértil, Paraguay’s leading agribusiness company, received a US$ 20 millon revolving loan from International Finance Corporation (IFC), founded in 1956 and a member of the World Bank Group.

The IFC investment will support Agrofértil to continue providing financing and technical support to its network of agricultural producers – 71 percent of which are small and medium-sized farmers with less than 500 hectares of land – so they can cover their pre-harvest financing needs and face the economic impacts caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.

IFC is the largest global development institution focused on the private sector in emerging markets. In fiscal year 2020, IFC invested $22 billion in private companies and financial institutions in developing countries, leveraging the power of the private sector to end extreme poverty and boost shared prosperity.

Agrofertil, founded in 1993, is Paraguay’s leading agricultural input distributor. The company provides its products and services to more than 2200 clients, including farmers, cooperatives and small distributors.
