Carey Olsen has acted as lead counsel to Grant Thornton Channel Islands on its acquisition of the Saffery Champness audit business in Guernsey.
Grant Thornton Channel Islands has acquired the audit business of Saffery Champness in Guernsey, enabling it to expand into the local business market, as well as financial services sectors and outsourced finance functions.
Grant Thornton now has a team of 165 in the Channel Islands. A total of six staff from Saffery Champness will join Grant Thornton, including Jeremy Ellis as Director in Guernsey.
The transaction will have no impact on the rest of the business of Saffery Champness in Guernsey, nor on the wider audit business of Saffery Champness in the UK.
Saffery Champness is a fintech company providing accounting, tax, and advisory services to companies, individuals and not-for-profit organizations.
Grant Thornton Limited provides professional services. The Company offers business consulting, advisory, assurance, and tax services.
Carey Olsen advised Grant Thornton on all aspects of the acquisition including drafting and negotiating the purchase documentation and dealing with the transfer of employees. The team was led by corporate partner Tony Lane (PIcture) and senior associate Arya Hashemi, with assistance from counsel Huw Thomas from the firm’s employment team.
