Granicus Acquisition of Accela’s Legislative Management business

Ropes & Gray advised Accela on the deal

Granicus, the largest provider of cloud-based software solutions to government, today announced that it will purchase the assets and operations of Accela’s Legislative Management business, previously known as IQM2. These assets include public sector meeting software that enables government to manage public meetings and engage citizens in civic processes.

This transaction is another step toward realizing Granicus’ mission to provide best-in-class, modern technology solutions for government and civic agencies. In the past year, the company also acquired Vision Internet and Novusolutions, building on its vision and commitment to deliver an innovative, end-to-end legislative management and citizen engagement platform driven by local government needs and pressures from digital citizens.

Accela has 450 customers using its Legislative Management solutions. Granicus serves 4,000 government agencies and civic organizations in the United States, Canada and the United Kingdom.

IQM2, a company focused on local government software solutions was acquired by Accela in 2014 becoming Accela’s Legislative Management suite which includes Agenda & Minutes (formerly known as MinuteTraq), CivicStreaming (formerly known as MediaTraq), Digital Boardroom and Boards & Commissions. Granicus has assumed the operations, assets and customer contracts of the Legislative Management unit as part of the transaction.

Granicus Inc. provides cloud-based solutions that manage and distribute legislative content network for governments in North America. The company, led by Mark Hynes, Bob Ainsbury and Eric Gibson is based in Denver (CO).

Accela, Inc. designs and delivers cloud-based productivity and engagement software solutions to government agencies worldwide. The company, led by Ed Daihl, Mark Jung and Bruce Duner, is based in San Ramon (CA).

The Ropes & Gray team was led by private equity associate Hunter Sharp (Picture) and included private equity partner Taylor Hart.
