The Florida East Coast Railway (FEC) and GMéxico Transportes S.A. de C.V.(GMXT), the transportation unit of Mexico City, Mexico-based miner Grupo Mexico, announced that they have entered into an agreement in which GMXT will acquire FEC in a $2.1 Billion all-cash transaction, which is expected to close subject to satisfaction of closing conditions.
Florida East Coast Railway, LLC operates a freight rail system along the east coast of Florida. The company provides on-dock rail, intermodal, highway, and drayage services. The company, led by James R. Hertwig, John A. Brenholt, Robert Ledoux, is based in Jacksonville.
GMXT is comprised of 10,570 kilometres, or 620 miles, of railroads across 24 states in Mexico, as well as Texas.
FEC is owned by funds managed by affiliates of Fortress Investment Group LLC
GMéxico Transportes S.A. de C.V. operates as a subsidiary of Grupo México.
Grupo Mexico SAB de CV mines, processes, and markets copper, silver, gold, molybdenum, lead, and zinc. The Company holds concessions to operate the Pacifico-Norte and Chihuahua-Pacifico Railroad lines.
