Future plc’s Acquisition of Marie Claire U.S.

Holland & Knight LLP advised Future plc on the deal.

Future plc, a U.K.-based global platform for specialist media, announced its purchase of Marie Claire U.S., a women’s lifestyle magazine. Marie Claire U.S. had been part of Hearst Publishing since 1994 in a joint venture with French company Marie Claire Album. Future, which publishes a variety of magazines including Marie Claire U.K., acquired the U.S. edition from both owners. The deal closed on May 11.

With an audience reaching nearly 17.5 million monthly unique users, Marie Claire U.S. expands Future’s reach to 22 million readers in the U.S. and just under 30 million readers globally across all of its women’s lifestyle brands. Future plans to use its proprietary ad tech and e-commerce technology, alongside expert editorial content, to significantly increase the magazine’s online audience, boosting revenue opportunities for advertisers and retail brands.
