CentraCare Health’s acquisition of Rice Memorial Hospital and Affiliated Community Medical Centers

Ballard Spahr recently advised CentraCare Health in the successful acquisition of Rice Memorial Hospital and Affiliated Community Medical Centers (ACMC), both based in Willmar, Minnesota.

Under the terms of the agreement, the hospital and ACMC, a physician group, merged to form Carris Health—a nonprofit subsidiary of CentraCare Health. The transaction is among the latest in a growing trend of significant health care mergers across the country, and it involved two of the largest formerly independent providers in the Upper Midwest. David R. Melloh (Picture), a partner in Ballard Spahr’s Minneapolis office and Co-Leader of the firm’s Health Care Group, led the legal team.

CentraCare Health is a not-for-profit health care system that provides comprehensive care to people throughout Western and Central Minnesota. Its collaborative network includes hospitals in seven cities as well as clinics, nursing homes, and senior housing in several communities.

Minneapolis-based attorneys Jamie S. Buskirk , Mark D. Salsbury, and Ann Novacheck also advised CentraCare Health in this matter.
