Banco Regional de Desenvolvimento do Extremo Sul’s $61 Million Loan to develop Green projects

TozziniFreire and Trench Rossi Watanabe (Baker McKenzie) advised on the transaction

Brazil’s Far South Regional Development Bank (BRDE) signed a EUR-50-million (USD 61.6m) financial deal with the French Development Agency (AFD) to support green projects and sustainable economic development in the Latin American country.

The loan has a three-year grace period and a term of 10 years.

The funds will benefit projects of companies and municipalities registered in BRDE’s Sustainable Production and Consumption programme. It prioritises five sectors — cities, renewable energy and energy efficiency, waste management, water and sanitation, and sustainable agriculture.

Over the next three years, the two banks will study projects and financing conditions adapted to the Brazilian market. The two will cooperate on the evaluation of project impact.
