Orrick Herrington & Sutcliffe LLP assisted the Hemeria Group, a major player in the space industry drawing on a 30-year heritage of defense and space expertise, on its investment in Kineis, a satellite operator and a global connectivity provider.
Founded in 2019, Kineis is an independent, private satellite operator, connectivity provider and subsidiary of CLS. Kineis draws on the ARGOS system legacy of 40 years of experience in location and data collection to develop reliable technology that provides easy access to useful satellite data.
This investment by the Hemeria Group is part of a historic €100 million fundraising campaign completed by Kineis with the support of CLS, CNES, Bpifrance, Ifremer, Thales, CELAD, BNP Paribas Développement and other industrial and financial partners, intended to finance the Kineis constellation of nanosatellites dedicated to the Internet of Things (IoT). The Kineis constellation already consists of ARGOS operational payloads on seven satellites and a prototype nanosatellite, ANGELS, which was placed in orbit on December 18, 2019. The Hemeria Group is responsible for the satellite platforms and integration and will supply 25 nanosatellites of this constellation.
